”I took the business I started with a basket to a cart, and I'm happy with that.”

What you should know

I keep a cart in front of my house all day. Whenever there is no business. There is no crowd of customers in front of my house. So during the school half-holiday in the afternoon, I push the cart to the school gate. I wait in front of the school all day and there is no business. I sell snacks for about an hour and return home during lunch.

Chatpate is a popular snack here. Apart from this, I have also been selling snacks, biscuits, noodles, and pens. I have been selling snacks like this for about two years. My home is in Ramnagar, Belauri Municipality-5. I am 30 years old. I have been selling various goods from a cart at the gate of Janannamuna Secondary School near my house for two years. I stand at the gate for only one hour during the school half-holiday. In that one hour, goods worth one thousand/twelve hundred are sold. Selling chatpate a day saves five/seven hundred.

I started my business by selling things in a dirty basket. I used to walk around the village carrying a basket along with school. I sold things in this way for about five or six months, carrying the basket on my head. My husband Arjun works as a steel material maker. Both of us manage the household expenses together. Food is produced at home. We have to buy greens, vegetables, salt, oil, and pulses, etc. That is where the expenses come from. Then, it is spent on the children's education expenses, pens, books, and school uniforms.

All the household expenses are met from the earnings from the cart. My children's education expenses are also covered from this. My son is in grade 6 and my daughter is in grade 1. I sell things in a cart at home in the morning and evening. But only a few customers come to my house. Business is good only when school is in session, other times it is quiet. I work at home during school holidays.

I started my business by selling things in a dirty basket. I used to go to school carrying a basket in the village. For about five or six months, I sold chapathi by rolling the basket on my head. Then my husband made a cart for me. Now it is easier. I reach school by rolling the cart. Then I take it home. The business that started by walking around the village with the basket on my head has now reached the cart. I am happy about this.

Along with snacks, I also sell kurmure, bhuja, chiura and noodles in the cart. I collect these items myself. In the morning, I am busy making chapathi and collecting other items along with housework. After sending the children to school, I also come back after some time. During farming, there is no time for housework. During other times, I am earning a good income from this. Along with housework, there is also childcare.

If there is a good investment, I would like to expand this business and work in crowded places in the village. But for that, I need a lot of investment. I don't think I can do it alone.
