”I am raising my grandson with the earnings of sewing shoes”

What you should know

It has been a long time since I started sewing shoes and sandals in Kushma Bazaar. At a young age, I worked in many cities in India. With the passage of age, I returned to the village and learned the skill of sewing shoes that my ancestors had been doing. Now I am 71 years old. Even though the hair fell out and the palate became open, he did not have to take medicine due to illness. There is satisfaction in this.

My house is in Kushma municipality-7 godown. Shoemaking is an ancient profession. But it's only been 15 years since I started doing it . As a child, I learned to sew shoes by visiting the village with my grandfather/father. As I grew older, I was also touched by the wave of going to India in the village. I worked in Silang, Nagaland, Haryana and other cities of India for 32 years.

youth spent abroad . In his old age, he has been given food by the work shown by his ancestors . 500 rupees a day is earned. 14-15 thousand per month. Salt-oil has reached well. Earning is not like before . Before, it used to be 1500 a day. Now there are no people in the market. Even the old torn ones were sewn and left by people.

This job seems easy. Do it until you are old enough . When the market comes, everyone meets . The heart is happy . If not, there is old-age allowance given by the government, that's mine, stay.

There are three sons and one daughter in terms of birth. Two sons passed away at a young age. That one son had been helping in sorrow/happiness . However, after getting married and giving birth to a child, he went to the Gulf country to earn money. Returned to the box within a year . The pain of losing a son in old age makes me cringe from time to time . What to do... What is written on the skull, you have to bear it .

How did the son die? Nothing is known about this . Many took out many causes of death in their own way. I didn't want to become more weak after knowing the reason of my son's death . Instead, I am trying to forget the separation as much as possible and make the little grandson who is growing up feel the duty and responsibility of his father. After her son's death, her daughter-in-law also went abroad thinking about her grandson's future. Only my wife, myself and grandson are at home . Our happiness, our future is this boy.

The grandson studies in Kushma's private school . After eating together in the morning, grandson and I go down to the market . After leaving him at school, I go to open a shop . The 3-year-old grandson has now turned 10 years old when his father passed away . Bringing my grandson to school and home is mine. Grandchildren gossiping up and down. Since my grandson's school is closed on Saturday, I am also staying on holiday . The market will not fall.

My wife and I spend time in the vegetable garden planted in front of the house doing Godmail and doing household chores. Life is joy. No one owes a debt . Breakfast and dinner are good.

I am the only one who embraces the ancestral profession in this village . There are 90 households in brothers and sisters. All of them hold different professions and businesses. Out of 9 brothers and sisters in our family, only one brother and I are alive . I remembered my childhood. Father used to bring all the family members of the house with him to sew shoes in different places.

I remember going to the stormy river of Syangja to sew shoes with my father. First, they used to go to one village, build a camp there and sew shoes for 6 months, and then go to another village . Shoes of buffalo and cow skin had to be sewn. At that time, like now, not everyone could afford to wear shoes. Only rich families used to bring shoes.
