28-year-old Harish Singh Pali of Bhageshwar Rural Municipality-5 of Dadeldhura, who was in Kailali District Jail, died on Monday. Pali's family refused to identify the body saying that Harish Singh's death was suspicious. The body has been kept at the Seti Provincial Hospital.
The family claims that Harish Singh's death was due to beating. Jagdish Rawal, a relative of the deceased, claimed that Harisingh was tortured inside the prison. "There are bruises all over the body, blood was flowing from the head," he said. "He died within half an hour of being taken to the hospital," said spokesperson Singh.
According to the Kailali police, on February 20, the Kailali district court sentenced Harisingh to 10 days imprisonment and a fine of two lakhs for banking offences. To execute the same sentence, Pali was arrested on March 31 from Tufandanda located in Amargadhi Municipality-5 of Dadeldhura. He died on the second day of his imprisonment.
