Duhun rural municipality-5 of Darchula, the candidate of Nepali Congress, Dhansingh Kunwar has won. According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Congress candidate Kunwar was elected as ward president in the by-election held on Sunday.

According to the office, Kunwar, the elected candidate for ward president, got 376 votes out of the total votes cast. His closest rival, CPN-UML candidate Mansingh Badal, has received 358 votes. 

Similarly, the candidate of the Maoist center Birsingh Karki got 98 votes while the independent candidate Lalsingh Kunwar got 25 votes, Chief Election Officer Pushparaj Pandey informed. 

877 votes were cast in the by-election for the post of ward president. Out of the votes cast, 20 votes have been invalidated. According to District Election Office Darchula, there are 1,272 voters in this ward.

Duhu-5 was won by Maoists in 2079.
