Ten-man England advanced to the last eight of the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic 3-2 win over Mexico on Monday. The match at the Mexico City Stadium, which started an hour late due to bad weather, was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament.
Bellingham scored twice for England in the first half. He opened the scoring in the 36th minute and added a second two minutes later. Mexico then pulled one back in the 42nd minute through Julian Quinones.
England lost Jarrell Kwansa to a red card early in the second half. Harry Kane doubled England's lead from the penalty spot in the 60th minute, but it too was short-lived. It was his sixth individual goal of the World Cup. Raul Jimenez scored another goal for Mexico from the penalty spot in the 69th minute.
The defeat ended the challenge for co-hosts Mexico in the tournament. Canada also became the second host nation to be eliminated from the Mexico tournament. England will now face Norway in the quarter-finals.
