But the Kurdish-born player could not build on his three goals and two assists in the first two games. 

Nagelsmann has been criticized for not giving forward Nick Woltemade a chance. He was brought on in extra time against Paraguay, but there was not enough time left. Three players missed penalties for Germany in the tiebreaker. One of them was Woltemade.

Nagelsmann claimed before the tournament that Germany's goal was to win the World Cup. But this claim turned out to be nothing more than a false promise. The German team did not perform to justify its claim to win the World Cup. Germany played only two games in this World Cup, and that too against debutants Curacao and Ivory Coast. Germany also lost against Ecuador and Paraguay. 

There was a wave of joy in Paraguay after defeating Germany. This is considered a shocking result in world football. Before the match, German fans did not have proper information about a single Paraguayan player. Germany also had its eye on the last 16, where it could have potentially met France or Sweden.
