Madonna, Shakira and K-pop superstar BTS are set to perform at the 2026 World Cup final.
FIFA announced on Thursday that the event will be a Super Bowl-style halftime show. The final will be held at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Coldplay's Chris Martin will host the show. It is the first time such a show has been held at a World Cup final in history.
But concerns are already rising about how long the show will last. This year's World Cup will be the biggest yet, with 48 countries participating. The World Cup, which starts on June 11, is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the event in March last year. He did not say at the time who would be performing or how long it would last. Infantino said on Instagram, ‘This World Cup will be a historic occasion. Last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium also featured a musical performance at halftime. It lasted more than the usual 15 minutes. Infantino said that a special event will also be held in New York’s Times Square during the final weekend of the World Cup. It is believed that $100 million will be raised from around the world during the World Cup. Shakira released a snippet of the official song for this World Cup just last week. The short video was shot at Brazil's historic Maracana Stadium. Shakira also sang the song 'Waka Waka' for the 2010 World Cup. The song for this year's World Cup is called 'Daai Daai'.
The 67-second video, which has now been released, shows Shakira at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro and later performing on Copacabana Beach in front of more than two million spectators. She was holding the official ball of the World Cup, 'Trionda'. The song is in English. She is accompanied by a large number of dancers. They are dressed in colors that match the jerseys of the US and Colombian teams.
