Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. Despite scoring 25 runs in the first over, Kolkata, which had set a target of 227 runs, were all out for 161 runs in 16 overs at the Eden Gardens ground. 

Sunrisers recorded their first win in the second match. The team lost to Royal Challengers in the first match.  This was Kolkata's second consecutive defeat. Mumbai Indians had won the first match over the team. 

Finn Allen, who hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in the first over, was out for 28 runs in the second over after hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes in 7 balls.  He had scored a century against South Africa in the semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup at this ground last month to take New Zealand to the final. 

Opener and captain Ajinkya Rahane could only score 8 runs in 10 balls. Cameron Green scored 2 runs and Angkrish Raghuvanshi was both run out. Raghuvanshi scored 52 runs in 29 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Anukul Roy got the catch in the first ball.

Kolkata's big hope was Rinku Singh. He also hit 4 fours and 1 six in 25 balls and was out for 35 runs. Sunil Narine, who hit sixes in the first two balls he faced, was out for 12 runs in 4 balls. Ishan Malinga dismissed Ramandeep Singh for 10 runs in the same over. Jaydev Unadkar dismissed Kartik Tyagi and Varun Chakravarthy in consecutive balls to give Sunrisers victory. Unadkar took 3 wickets and Malinga and Nitish Kumar Reddy took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, Sunrisers, who were invited to bat after losing the toss, scored 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave Sunrisers a great start as usual. The two added 82 runs in the first 6 overs of the power-play.

Head scored 46 runs in 21 balls, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. Abhishek also narrowly missed out on a half-century. He scored 48 runs in 21 balls, including 4 fours and a six. Captain Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 14 off 9 balls and Aniket Verma for 1 run.

Henrik Klaasen and Reddy added 82 runs for the fifth wicket. This is Sunrisers' highest partnership for the fifth wicket in IPL. Reddy scored 39 runs in 24 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six. Klaasen scored 52 runs in 35 balls before being dismissed in the last over. He hit 4 fours and 1 six.

Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Mujarbani, who dismissed Klaasen and Shivang Kumar in the last over, took a total of 4 wickets. He conceded 41 runs in 4 overs. Vaibhav Arora took 2 wickets for 47 runs in 4 overs, while Tyagi and Anukul took 1 wicket each.
