Three centuries have been scored in the first and second editions of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) till Tuesday. The second edition of the NPL, which was started by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) last year, is currently underway at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur since November 1.

Only one century was scored in the first edition. All three centuries were scored by foreign players. Nepali players have not been able to score a century so far. In the 21st match of the ongoing edition, Adam Rossington of Pokhara Avengers scored a century on Tuesday. He completed his century in 55 balls against Karnali Yaks. He remained unbeaten on 108 runs in 58 balls in that match. Adam was also declared the Player of the Match in this match, which defeated Karnali by 34 runs. Adam is from England.

Similarly, Mark Watt of Scotland, who is signed by Karnali Yaks, is the first player to score a century in the ongoing edition. He scored a century in 41 balls in the match against Lumbini Lions. Watt remained unbeaten on 114 runs in 44 balls in that match. Karnali won this match by 9 wickets. Watt was also named Player of the Match. Watt is also the player who scored the fastest century in the NPL and scored the most runs in a single match.

The only century in the first edition of the NPL is in the name of American player Andries Gous. Gous, who is affiliated with the Pokhara team, scored a century against Lumbini. Gous completed a 54-ball century. In that match, he scored an unbeaten 104 runs.

Foreigners dominate in half-centuries

So far, 22 players have hit 26 half-centuries in the ongoing tournament. Of these, 17 half-centuries are in the name of foreign players. Only nine half-centuries have been scored by Nepali players.

The foreign players who have hit half-centuries are Chitwan Rhinos' Ravi Bopara (three), Karnali Yaks' Priyank Panchal (two) and Janakpur Bolts' Wayne Parnell, Sanjay Krishnamurthy and Maj Sadakat, Sudurpaschim Royals' Josh Brown and Harmit Singh, Pokhara's Sumit Verma, Jimmy Neesham and Adam Rossington, Biratnagar Kings' Martin Guptill, Chitwan's David Malan, Karnali's Mark Watt and Kathmandu  Gorkhas' John Simpson (one each) are among the Nepali players who have scored half-centuries. 

Pokhara Avengers captain  Kushal Bhurtel (two) and Sudurpaschim's  Binod Bhandari and Ishan Pandey, Biratnagar Kings'  Lokesh Bam and Bashir Ahmed,  Chitwan's  Arjun  Saund, Janakpur's  Anil Shah and  Ashif Sheikh (one each) are among the Nepali players who have scored half-centuries. 

The list of highest run-scorers also includes foreign players.  Pokhara's Adam Rossington is at the top of the list of highest run-scorers after twenty-one matches. He has scored 253 runs in five matches so far. 

Mark Watt of Karnali is in second place with 242 runs in 6 matches, Ravi Bopra of Chitwan is in third place with 207 runs in 5 matches, Priyank Panchal of Karnali is in fourth place with 181 runs in 6 matches and Rohit Kumar Poudel (174 runs) who is also the captain of Lumbini who has played 5 matches is in fifth place.

Nepali players excel in bowling

Although foreign players dominate in terms of highest runs and individual scores, Nepali players have been seen excelling in bowling. Avinash Bohara of Sudurpaschim is in the top position of the player who takes the most wickets. He has taken 11 wickets in 5 matches so far.

Sandeep Lamichhane, who is also the captain of Biratnagar Kings, is in second place with 10 wickets in 5 matches. Milind Kumar, a foreign player based in Kathmandu, is in third place and Kathmandu captain Karan KC is in fourth place. Milind and Karan have taken 10 wickets each in 6 matches. Similarly, Harmit Singh, a foreign player affiliated to Sudurpaschim, is in fifth place with nine wickets in five matches. 

NPL Biratnagar and Pokhara's highest score

The team that has scored the highest score in NPL history is Biratnagar Kings. Biratnagar scored 220 runs against Pokhara in the current edition. This is the highest score so far. The team that has scored the second highest score is Pokhara. Pokhara scored 201 runs against Karnali. 

The team that has scored the lowest score in this edition is Chitwan. Chitwan scored 89 runs against Kathmandu  Gorkhaz. Eight teams are participating in the second edition of NPL, which started on Mangsir 1. So far, only Sudurpaschim has become the first team to reach the playoffs. Karnali is the first team to be eliminated from the competition. The other teams are yet to be decided. The tournament being organized by the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) will conclude on Mangsir 27.
