Prioritizing sports infrastructure, player training and competition
In the budget presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel in the Federal Parliament for the financial year 2082/83, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been increased almost twice.
Minister Paudel has allocated a budget of 6.8 billion for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. 3 billion 500 million budget was allocated last year. Although there was an allocation of 600 million for the 10th National Games to be held in Karnali Province, the budget was frozen when the competition was postponed due to the postponement of the date.
Finance Minister Paudel said in his budget speech that 540 million budget has been allocated for the 10th National Games scheduled to be held in Birendra Nagar, Surkhet for this financial year as well.
Minister Paudel has mentioned that sports infrastructure, player training and competition have been prioritized. He said that there has been a significant increase in the budget for that. He said that the policy of increasing investment for the professional development of players has been taken and continuous training and competitions will be held to develop the feeling that players can win.
The private sector will be attracted to invest in sports infrastructure to promote the production of national and international athletes and sports competitions. Finance Minister Paudel says that the government will ensure access to roads, drinking water and electricity for such sports infrastructure.
He has announced in the budget statement that an international level multi-purpose modern stadium will be built in Damak in Jhapa where all kinds of sports competitions can be organized.
also said that high altitude sports stadiums will be built in Khel Solukhumbu, Mustang and Jumla for diversification of sports and promotion of sports tourism.
54 crores have been allocated for the construction of Moolpani Cricket Stadium in Kathmandu, Girijaprasad Koirala Stadium in Morang, Fapla Cricket Stadium in Kailali, Siddharth Cricket Stadium in Rupandehi.
In addition, an additional 400 million will be allocated to upgrade the Trivi Cricket Stadium located in Kirtipur. Construction of flood light and parapet is being done in the current financial year. It is said that conditional grant will be arranged to purchase the property created by Gautam Budh International Cricket Stadium in Chitwan based on the evaluation done by the University of Engineering Studies Institute.
Minister Poudel said that the necessary budget arrangements have been arranged for the operation of the National Anti-Doping Agency.
In addition to encouraging medal winning Nepalese athletes in international sports competitions, it has been announced that educational scholarships will be provided to the offspring of such athletes. The incentives provided to players and coaches have been continued.
The government has announced that women-targeted training and practice programs will be conducted to increase women's participation in sports. A special prize will be arranged for the best female players.
Paudel said in his budget speech that the budget has been managed to run sports academies in at least three schools in each province.
Similarly, the government's goal is to make children and young people dutiful, disciplined, self-reliant, characterful and mobilized for social service and philanthropic work through scouts.
Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, Tanklal Ghising, said that since the size of the annual budget has increased, Nepali sports should take it enthusiastically. He said, 'The budget has come big. Nepali sports should take this enthusiastically. The budget has also included the program submitted by the government. There is a budget that can be implemented at the local and provincial levels as well. If it can be implemented in an equally responsible manner from all levels, the expected results can be achieved.'
