Many expected that Sunrisers Hyderabad will touch the score of 300 runs in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket on Thursday. There were some arguments in that. First, Hyderabad scored 286-6 in the last match, which was the second highest score in the IPL.

Secondly, Lucknow were playing without some of their first-choice fast bowlers. Forget 300 runs. After losing the toss, Hyderabad, who were invited to bat, could not even score 200 runs. Hyderabad was reduced to 190-9 after Shardul Thakur, who was 'unsold' in the auction, took 4 wickets for 34 runs.

Shardul dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Sharma in consecutive balls in the third over of the innings. Abhishek, who scored 6 runs, was caught at deep square leg while trying to pull the short ball. Kishan is the player who scored a century in the previous match. But he was caught out by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant on the first ball that went to Shardul's leg side.

In the next over, Travis Head tried to put the pressure back on Lucknow by hitting 2 sixes and 1 four off the bowling of Avesh Khan. He reached to catch Nicholas Pooran at long-on when he tried to 'slug sweep' Ravi Vishnoi's ball. But Pooran managed to take the catch. Bishnoi also failed to take a difficult return catch.

Head was on 35 when the first catch came. It cost Lucknow only 12 runs. Prince Yadav bowled Head for 47 runs to take his first individual wicket in the IPL. Head hit 5 fours and 3 sixes off 28 balls. Nitishkumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen took Hyderabad's score to 100 runs in the 11th over. Klaasen hit 2 fours and 1 six in 17 balls and unfortunately got run out. Prince's full toss was hit by Nitish. Prince took the catch. Klaasen was run out after the ball fell and hit the stumps at the non-striking end.

After Bishnoi dismissed Nitish, Lucknow took control of the game. Nitish hit 2 fours while scoring 38 runs off 28 balls. Aniket Verma hit two consecutive sixes off Vishnoi and Digvesh Rathi. Verma hit a total of 5 sixes while scoring 36 runs off 13 balls and got out in the last ball of the 16th over.

After two balls, player of the match Shardul caught Abhinav Manohar out. Pat Cummins hit sixes in the first 3 balls he faced, but was out on the fourth ball. Hyderabad could only add 10 runs in the last 2 overs.

After Pooran scored 70 runs in 26 balls, Lucknow scored 193 runs in 16.1 overs. Pooran and Mitchell Marsh added 116 runs in 7.1 overs for the second wicket after Aiden Markrum was dismissed for 1 run. Puran had the same 6 fours and a six and Marsh hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in 31 balls. Both scored their second consecutive half-centuries.

Rishabh 15 and Ayush Badoni were dismissed for 6 runs. David Miller hit 13 off 7 balls and Abdul Saman hit 2 fours and a six off 8 balls to remain unbeaten on 22 runs. For Hyderabad, Pat Cummins took 2 wickets and Mohammad Sami, Adam Zampa and Harshal Patel took 1 wicket each. Lucknow was defeated by Delhi Capitals by 1 wicket in the first match.
