The meeting of the Central Disciplinary Committee of the Nepali Congress has asked the then Vice President of the party, Purna Bahadur Khadka, to explain within 7 days. The meeting held at BP Smriti Bhawan in Lalitpur under the coordination of the committee's coordinator Taraman Gurung on Wednesday decided to demand an explanation, concluding that Khadka had issued a press release using the party's fake letterpad and was unauthorized. When Kantipur spoke to him about the party's request for an explanation, he said that the special general convention and the working committee elected from it were illegal and that the story was ridiculous and meaningless. An edited excerpt of the conversation Kantipur had with him: story It has been decided to ask you for an explanation, how have you taken it? story First of all, we are supporters of the 14th general convention. The kind of commentary that has been made about it as the ‘Deuba faction’ needs to be corrected. The main problem within the Congress now is between the Central Working Committee elected from the 14th General Convention and the structure formed from another so-called special general convention. There are not two parties in the entire Congress. Apart from the Central Working Committee, there are structures from the 14th General Convention to the state, district and ward levels, and they are still ongoing. The dispute is between the two Central Working Committees, not the entire structure. Okay, how did you decide to ask for an explanation? I came to know through you that an explanation was asked. This was done through the structure formed from the so-called special general convention. The Central Working Committee from the 14th General Convention, after meeting in Sanepa, concluded that the decision made by the Election Commission regarding the Congress at that time was against the Constitution, prevailing laws, party-related acts and party statutes. In addition, we have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Commission, stating that it went against the precedents established in similar disputes. That writ petition is currently under consideration. Meanwhile, the context of the Falgun 21 election came up. After filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court as the acting president, stating that the special general convention and the central working committee elected from it were illegal, I did not participate in the election as it would be unethical to contest the election under the signatures of the same illegal office bearers. It is my life principle not to do anything politically immoral. The case is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court. We believe that the honorable court will provide justice. We also believe that the oldest party in Nepal's politics and the one that has led the change will understand the current sensitive situation. The final verdict on this matter will come soon and we will get justice. Will there be any clarification or not? Khadka: In this context, it is ridiculous, irrelevant and pointless to ask for an explanation from the same structure that I have filed a case against as illegal. I have filed a writ petition as the acting president. Therefore, there is no point in such an explanation. Now everyone should accept the decision of the court. Then, everyone should end the dispute within the party and move forward unitedly. Whatever the court's decision is, will you accept it?
We are confident that we will get justice from the Supreme Court. We also expect a verdict soon. I am of the opinion that everyone should accept the court's decision and move forward in the direction of uniting the party.
Has the disciplinary committee decided to take action if no explanation is received?
Khadka: I have already said - asking for an explanation is ridiculous and pointless. Then, there is no point in going through the process. My writ petition as acting president is pending in court. Therefore, the letterpad I used is not fake. The statement issued two days ago was made on the official, genuine letterpad of the Congress.
