Resham Chaudhary's candidacy rejected

The Office of the Returning Officer has rejected the candidacy of Resham Lal Chaudhary, who had filed his candidacy from Kailali-1 on behalf of the Civil Liberties Party Nepal.

A complaint was filed against Chaudhary on Wednesday. Chaudhary was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court on charges of murder. The Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government had recommended his pardon. He was pardoned by President Ram Chandra Poudel on the government's recommendation. On Jestha 2, 2080, the Supreme Court found Chaudhary guilty in the Tikapur massacre and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Less than two weeks later, the President pardoned him on Republic Day. The Returning Officer's Office said, 'The court's decision does not become invalid just because the President pardoned him, so the decision to cancel the candidacy has been made.' Earlier, the Commission had also ruled that a person convicted of a criminal offense cannot be a member of a party, as the Political Parties Act and court decisions also provide that such a person cannot be updated as the party chairman.
