Although parties have fielded very few female candidates directly in the upcoming House of Representatives elections, the number of women running as independent candidates is significant.

According to the Election Commission, out of a total of 3,484 candidates, only 395 are women. This is only 11.34 percent of the total candidates. While 160 women have registered their candidacies as independents.

Among those who have registered their candidacies as independents, 64 are women under the age of 40. According to the Commission, the youngest independent female candidate is 25-year-old Ram Kumari Khang. She has filed her candidacy from Saptari-1. Looking at the age group, 64 of the independent candidates are women under the age of 40.

94 women in the age group of 40 to 60 have filed their candidacies as independents. Similarly, 8 women above the age of 60 have also filed their candidacies as independents.

The oldest female candidate among the independent candidates is 82-year-old Panchkumari Manandhar. She has filed her candidacy as an independent from Kathmandu-9.
