The crucial talks being held in the Ring Road area to prevent a split in the Congress have been delayed due to the impasse over the issue of interim leadership.
According to a leader participating in the talks, although the establishment side seems to be somewhat flexible on the issue of taking ownership of the special general convention and implementing the decisions made by it, it does not seem to agree on the proposal to change the leadership immediately.
According to him, there has been no agreement on the issue of forming an interim leadership until the 15th general convention is held next April. 'If the matter of the interim leadership is not agreed upon, other issues have also been stuck,' the leader said, 'Efforts to reach an agreement are still ongoing for some time. If there is no agreement, we will decide our own path.'
Central member Pradeep Poudel, who participated in the talks, said that there has been no agreement at his level. 'The matter has not been agreed at our level. The leaders of the establishment side have gone to hold further discussions with Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka and the General Secretaries. It is not possible to say right now what will come out of the discussions with them,' he said.
Ramesh Lekhak and Balkrishna Khand are participating in the talks from the establishment side, while Pradeep Poudel, Guru Ghimire, Devraj Chalise and Madhu Acharya are participating from the special general convention supporters. Similarly, Jeevan Koirala and Minendra Rijal from the Shekhar Koirala group are also participating in the talks.
The leaders in favor of the special general convention have put forward the first condition that the central working committee should take ownership of the special general convention. After that, they have proposed that the decisions made by the special general convention should be implemented immediately, that a new interim working committee should be formed until the regular general convention is held, and that there should be an open competition for leadership.
The central working committee meeting in Sanepa has not been able to start as the talks have not been finalized. Meanwhile, the process of electing a new central working committee has been taken forward at the special general convention venue in Bhrikutimandap. The distribution and filling of nomination forms is ongoing.
It is seen that the election process of the new Central Working Committee will move forward formally if the talks do not reach an agreement, while the establishment side is said to be preparing to decide on action from the Central Working Committee. The Central Working Committee meeting called for 11 am has not yet begun as the talks have not concluded.
In the backdrop of the talks not reaching a conclusion, there will be no voting tonight to select a new leadership at the special general convention being held at Bhrikutimandap. Central Election Committee Coordinator Sitaram KC informed that preparations are underway to move forward the voting process only tomorrow, Wednesday, as it will be difficult to conduct voting at night. 'We are currently completing the nomination papers by 7:30 pm. After that, we will discuss and finalize the remaining process,' Coordinator KC said, 'There is no plan to go to the polls at night. It will be difficult to vote all night. It will probably be tomorrow morning.'
