Gen-G should make a special demand to bring the culprits of the Bhadra 24 incident to justice: General Secretary Sharma

What you should know

Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has demanded introspection and an impartial investigation into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24.

The report issued by Sharma at the second special general convention of the Nepali Congress states that Gen-G should take responsibility for their call, involvement and actions. Recalling the incident in 2042 BS when the Nepali Congress was conducting a satyagraha, the party suspended the entire satyagraha after bombs exploded in some places, the report states, ‘That was one of the highest moral performances in history. On this date, Gen-G protesters should introspect on their protest and take responsibility for only as much as their call, involvement and actions.’

The report states that Gen-G’s demand for action against the culprits of the Bhadra 23 incident is correct. ‘The ending of the lives of promising youth through excessive use of force was a serious incident in history. At the same time, it is necessary to separate the nationwide demolition incident on 24th, and to conduct a fair and objective investigation into it. "It should be a special demand of the Gen-G youth to investigate and bring the culprits to justice, and it is appropriate to resolve this impartially through a commission of inquiry," the report states. "By doing so, all the leaders of the Gen-G protest and every youth must be vigilant to prevent the stain of that destruction from falling on their heads in the future."

General Secretary Sharma has also mentioned in the report that it is not right to talk about the arson of Bhadra 24 and give second priority to the incident in which innocent youths were killed on Bhadra 23. He estimates that the tendency to remember the incident of Bhadra 23 but forget the destruction on Bhadra 24 could push the country into conflict. "We should all be clearly committed to a fair investigation and action on both Bhadra 23 and 24 and support the process in an honest manner," the report states.
