Senior Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has said that he is making a last-ditch effort to maintain unity within the party, even if it means drinking poison.
He said this while discussing with his close central members, district party presidents, and senior advocates. During the discussion, Koirala said that he is committed to unifying the party. He informed that he is in constant discussions and dialogue with all parties of the party to save the party from division.
'I have been talking to the party president, acting president, and general secretaries that the party should not be allowed to split under any circumstances,' he said, 'You can be assured, the party will not split. You should also work on it. There is no point in being disappointed.'
In the discussion, legal professionals said that only the Central Working Committee has the right to call a special general convention according to the Nepali Congress statute. They said that the special general convention called by the general secretaries now is not valid and the leadership cannot be changed.
The discussion was attended by party Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Joint General Secretaries Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar, central members Bal Bahadur KC, Minendra Rijal, senior advocates Sher Bahadur KC, Yogendra Adhikari, Upendra Keshari Neupane, and others.
