While a group of Congress members is organizing a special general convention, President Sher Bahadur Deuba has intensified discussions with leaders close to him.
The second general convention began on Sunday at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu. Despite repeated attempts by the special convention supporters to invite the president or acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka to the inaugural session, they refused to come to the inauguration.
The secretariat has clarified that there is no such program, saying that there was propaganda on social media that Deuba would participate in the closed session on Monday. Deuba's personal secretary Bhanu Deuba said that some people had spread the information on social media that President Deuba would go to Bhrikutimandap today, but there was no truth in it.
Deuba has been consulting with close leaders including Ramesh Lekhak and Krishna Prasad Sitaula at his private residence in Maharajgunj since Sunday, Head of the Publicity Department, Min Bishwakarma, said. He said that efforts are being made to coordinate between the special convention supporters and the establishment party, but no conclusion has been reached.
Deuba is discussing how to move forward after the decision taken by the special general convention, including withdrawing names from the proportional list of the House of Representatives.
Candidates on the proportional side of the House of Representatives election to be held on Falgun 21 have until 4 pm today to withdraw their candidacies.
