Congress dispute could not be resolved after Deuba refused to take ownership of the special general convention

Efforts throughout the day on Monday to reach a consensus failed after Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba refused to take ownership of the special general convention.

A while ago, a discussion was held on the middle-of-the-road proposal prepared by the district presidents close to Shekhar Koirala in discussions with the leaders in favor of the general convention.

Leader Koirala, along with his aides Minendra Rijal, Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar, went to Deuba's residence with the proposal. But a central member said that after Deuba took the bottom line that giving ownership to the special general convention was unacceptable, an agreement could not be reached. After Shekhar left, Deuba had discussed with the central members of his party.

After that discussion, a central committee meeting has been called for Tuesday. Spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the meeting was called to inform about the decisions taken by the central working committee earlier. He said that both the president and leader Shekhar Koirala disagreed on moving forward with ownership of the special general convention. 'There can be no question of taking ownership of the special general convention that the Central Working Committee has decided twice is not appropriate. Chairman, Shekhar Koirala and we have the same opinion on this,' he said, 'We can discuss issues of party operation and other policy reforms.'
