Party Office Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel issued a statement on Wednesday, urging the party cadre not to engage in such activities, saying that a convention or special general convention called by office bearers or members would be against the party's statute. The statement was issued in the backdrop of the special general convention supporters holding a press conference and advancing preparations for the special general convention.
'As provided in the party's statute, the right to call a convention or special general convention at any level is vested in the party's central working committee only, not in any office bearer or member,' the statement reads. 'As any activity carried out in the name of a convention or special general convention called by office bearers or members personally would be against the party's statute, the Nepali Congress cordially appeals to office bearers and members of all levels of the party, members of the general committee, general convention representatives, fraternal and well-wishing organizations, and office bearers and members of the Nepali Public Relations Committee abroad not to engage in such activities.'

In the context where the Central Working Committee meeting held on Mangsir 15 unanimously decided on the agenda of the 15th general convention and the process of the general convention has moved forward as per the party statute, the rationale for the special general convention has automatically ended from Mangsir 15, according to a statement issued by Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.
The party's attention has been drawn to the fact that a special general convention of the party has been called through various media outlets, ignoring the fact that the justification for the special general convention demanded within the same period has expired, while the process and program of the convention/general convention are being conducted by preparing the agenda based on the decision of the Congress Central Working Committee.
Also, for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21, the party has already presented candidates to the Election Commission on the proportional representation side and the nomination papers of the National Assembly members have been registered, and it has been called upon to be more actively involved in the campaign to make the party's candidates victorious.
