Oli made this statement at a meeting of the party's central secretariat held at the party's central office, Chyasal.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed doubts about holding simultaneous elections for members of the House of Representatives. Oli made this statement at the party central secretariat meeting held at the party central office, Chyasal, on Tuesday.
Quoting Chairman Oli, CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta said that discussions are underway among the leadership on how to go about the election. He also said that Chairman Oli has created an external atmosphere for the election and has instructed leaders and activists to prepare accordingly. According to Bhatta, Oli had said that the upcoming election should be treated as a movement.
Oli had also told the meeting that the government's activities and the communal incidents taking place in the country have created uncertainty about whether the election will be held or not. Bhatta said, "It is natural for the leadership to discuss how to go about the election and what to do. It seems that the external atmosphere has created, we need to prepare for that."
Oli said that there is uncertainty about whether the election will be held or not, adding that the election may not be held all at once but in sections and that he has instructed people to be psychologically prepared for this.
In the secretariat meeting, Oli had also claimed that the government and some foreign powers are plotting to postpone the election or divide it into different phases as the UML and Congress are getting closer. But he did not reveal who exactly is carrying out such a conspiracy and how. UML has already submitted a closed list of proportional candidates to participate in the elections. However, Oli has been publicly repeating his doubts that there will be no elections. At a party program held in the capital on 15th Poush, Oli had also said that the environment for elections has not been created and that leaders are being chased away.
He had said
, ‘Will anyone other than UML-Congress form the government in the elections? Is this possible? Will he become the Prime Minister by believing this?’ Although Oli has been making public his changing view on elections in his political statements, it seems that UML has already given up on the elections. On Sunday alone, the commission reached Oli’s residence in Gundu and took his statement, and his location has been removed
. UML has been preparing internally to intensify the election campaign as soon as the seat restrictions and passport ban imposed on Chairman Oli are lifted. Before that, UML had prioritized the restoration of parliament first and the election as its second priority. UML has already instructed to recommend direct candidates by December 26. The district municipal committee has instructed the district to recommend direct candidates by December 20, the district to the province by December 24, and the province to the central committee by December 25. As per the same instructions, the municipal committees have intensified the process of selecting potential candidates.
