Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen), who is holding a series of political meetings, has proposed party unity with Janmat Party Chairman CK Raut.
Balen met with Janmat chief Raut, who is pursuing Madhesh-centric politics, and proposed that alternative political forces travel together.
‘Balenji’s proposal was to form a single party,’ Raut said, ‘We will consider it.’
Balen had said that he was preparing to enter national politics from the ‘Desh Bikas Party’, whose election symbol is a stick. Raut said that since Madhesh politics is a bit different from other regions, forming a government is not the only issue. ‘Madhesh politics is different from others,’ he said, ‘It is not just about forming a prime minister. There are many other issues.’
Janmat emerged in the last general election as an alternative to the old Madhesh-centric political parties. In the last general election, it won 6 seats in the House of Representatives and 13 seats in the 107-seat Madhesh Provincial Assembly.
Balen and CK had a half-hour meeting on Wednesday.
