UML leader Ishwor Pokharel has asked Chairman KP Sharma Oli about democratization and leadership transfer in the party, citing his book. During the closed session of the 11th General Convention, Pokharel, who is also a candidate for the presidency, asked Oli and the hall questions, citing the book 'Jabaj and Party Life'.

'He has been asked to write a book called 'Jabj and the democratization of party life', why is there an age limit in it? Why is there a mention of two terms, it contains profound matters including geopolitical burdens. I would like to ask comrades to read it once,' Pokharel said.

Oli himself once raised serious questions about the transfer of leadership in UML. 'How is it possible to build a new leadership with the attitude that no one else can lead the party except him? How does the nation get a new leadership?', Oli wrote in the book.

He also said that there is a tendency to remain under the same leadership in the entire communist movement. He had also said that there is a problem of leadership transfer in the party. 'The issue of leadership transfer has emerged as a serious problem in the communist movement. Due to the lack of a voluntary retirement system in the party, the lack of age or tenure limits, and the lack of necessary arrangements for leadership transfer, etc., a situation has arisen where the person in leadership wants to remain in leadership for a long time (in some cases, even for life), is terrified by the psychological fear of being deemed incompetent upon leaving office, and makes various desired and unwanted efforts to remain in office, and those who want to obtain office also adopt legal and illegal measures,' Oli said.

Pokharel also emphasized that the 11th General Convention should be made a General Convention of unity. Pokharel also said that the environment was different in the 10th General Convention in 2078 BS. 'There was a compulsion in the 10th General Convention, a problem arose in our NCP. There should have been a self-review about that, but there is no review,' Pokharel said. Similarly, he said that the party statute is not in the conclusion of the General Convention. 'Now we are in the hall of the 11th General Convention. We are not where we were on Bhadra 22. Everything has been destroyed. Whether external factors are the main or internal factors are the decisive question must be resolved. We did everything well? But why did we fail?,' he asked.

Pokharel has expressed dissatisfaction saying that some of the things passed by the previous Bhadra General Convention have now been broken. At the Central Committee meeting held at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday morning, he had objected to the increase in the number of office bearers. 'Are our statutes temporary? Will we continue to do whatever suits us? Aren't you the ones who said yesterday to reduce the number before the statutory convention? Let's go according to the statutory issues, let's go according to the agenda presented by the General Secretary. Let's not do it right and left,' he had said.
