Leader Ishwor Pokharel, who is also a candidate for the UML presidency, has opposed the amendment to the party statute. He says that increasing the number of office bearers is not a solution to the problem in the current situation.
At the central committee meeting held at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, leader Pokharel said, 'The situation the party has taken does not mean that we should increase the points? The changed situation has given us a strong message to change. Will increasing the number increase the degradation if our previous ability is not preserved?' Similarly, he objected, stating that there was no discussion even though there was a voice within the party about not being allowed to hold the same post for more than 2 terms.
'Are our statutes temporary? Will we continue to do whatever suits us? Aren't you the ones who said that we should reduce the number before the legislative session yesterday? Let's go according to the statutory issues, let's go according to the agenda presented by the general secretary. Let's not do anything wrong,' he said.
At the central committee meeting on Sunday, the meeting decided to increase the number of office bearers to 19 again on the proposal of Chairman KP Sharma Oli. The new structure has been decided with a 301-member Central Committee, including a 45-member Standing Committee and 99-member Politburo. In addition, the office bearers will include 1 chairman, 5 vice-chairmen, 1 general secretary, 3 deputy general secretaries, and 9 secretaries. There will no longer be a senior vice-chairman position in UML. Earlier, Ishwor Pokharel held the position.
