At the same meeting where UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that the House of Representatives would be re-established, Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka expressed the view that the constitution should be brought back to life through elections.
While extending his best wishes for the 11th general convention of the UML, Khadka said that the issue of the restoration of the House of Representatives is still open to the court, and that the Congress is in favor of the election in the current situation.
‘In the current situation, our party believes that only elections can restore the constitution,’ Khadka said, ‘The government and the Election Commission must fulfill their responsibility to create an environment for peaceful and fearless elections.’
Acting President Khadka had gone to address the UML general convention on behalf of Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Khadka said that the election is being held in an atmosphere of fear due to the weapons looted from the police and the escaped prisoners in the incidents on Bhadra 23 and 24.
‘It is the government’s job to ensure an environment where everyone can participate in the elections. But have the government's decisions and activities moved forward to hold elections and create a fearless environment? We are serious about this,' he said, 'The government should also be serious and work to create an environment for elections.'
Khadka has urged the high-level investigation commission formed to investigate the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 to leave aside its insistence and prejudice and bring an impartial report. He expressed the view that the work of setting location limits for leaders and withholding passports has made them suspicious of the committee's work.
He said that to resolve the current crisis, new unity and cooperation should be built by connecting the Gen-G generations and those who have common views internally.
