Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has responded that he is ready to cooperate in the investigation after questions were raised about his business partnership with businessman Deepak Bhatt, who is being investigated for money laundering.

Giving a clarification on social media Facebook on Monday, he said, "I will fully comply with every decision made by the party in this regard and am ready to provide necessary assistance in the investigation." He said that allegations and truth are not the same thing and that decisions should be based on evidence, not emotion.

On Sunday evening, media outlets including Diyopost.com , Janaastha.com had made public details of Home Minister Gurung's business partnership with Bhatt. Documents showing his investment in Star Micro Insurance Company Limited, which is under investigation and where the Shankar Group is invested, were made public. A photo of Bhatt being honored as a donor by an organization called Hami Nepal, of which Gurung is the president, was made public on December 21, 2021. Gurung, on the other hand, said that it is important to understand the facts about the rumor that ‘shares worth 2.5 million were hidden’. ‘I have clearly mentioned that shares traded in the stock market are more than 20 million in the investment asset details, which anyone can see on the website of the Council of Ministers,’ he said, ‘The investment in Star Micro Insurance and Liberty Micro is also included in this group. This is not a matter of hiding, but of classification.’

He questioned that those who hide will not openly show assets of more than 20 million rupees, ‘Since when has investing in shares become a crime in this country? All transactions have been done through banking channels. All the money that goes through the bank is accounted for. When it went, where it went, to whom it went, it is all visible. How can money that is accounted for like this be hidden? Where to hide?'

The raids by the Money Laundering Investigation Department on the houses of Sulabh Agarwal and Deepak Bhatt and Himalaya Re-Insurance

When asked about the conflict of interest, he claimed that the investigation is being conducted by the Money Laundering Investigation Department under the Ministry of Finance and not by the Ministry of Home Affairs. ‘If I had interfered, such an investigation process would not have proceeded,’ he added, ‘The meaning of this is clear, the process is underway, not the effect.’
