The family of 34-year-old Binod Maharjan , who died during the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23, has accused the security forces of shooting him in the head without warning. In his statement given during the investigation, his brother Ratna Maharjan claimed that Binod died on the spot before reaching the hospital.
Binod, who is involved in painting and handicrafts, had spontaneously participated in the movement with his friends. Although it is not clear where he was on the day of the incident, the family says that he was last seen distributing water to a neighbor in the Shankhamul area around 12 noon.
He was taken to the hospital by protesters after being shot during the protest on Bhadra 23. According to hospital records, he died at 1:58 pm. However, the family claims that a video posted on social media indicates that he died on the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, the security personnel fired two rounds of bullets into the mouth without warning as a form of repression and the bullets came out from the back of the head. He also said that the police administration and the hospital have also taken a formal written statement regarding the incident.
The family has received Rs. 1.5 million from the Government of Nepal and Rs. 5 million from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City as relief. However, they have demanded a fair investigation into the incident and legal action against the culprits from the Commission of Inquiry.
