The custodial interrogation of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Director General Pradeep Adhikari and former Director Murari Bhandari, who were arrested on charges of corruption in the construction of the Nalinchowk Heliport, has been scheduled.
The presentation has been scheduled in the bench of judges Hemanta Rawal, Dilliratna Shrestha and Vidur Koirala. The presentation of the judges who could not be seen on that day, even though their statements were made on Friday, was postponed to Sunday. They have been produced before a special court today for a custody hearing.
The court will decide whether to seek bail or send them to custody in the arguments of both the government and the defendants. If the court demands bail, they will be released after paying the amount demanded. If they are sent to custody for trial, they will go to jail.
Adhikari and Bhandari were taken into custody last Wednesday by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, concluding that they had committed corruption in the construction of the heliport without submitting a detailed study report as per the agreement and without completing other procedures.
After a long investigation, the CIAA had filed a corruption case against 7 people including Director General Adhikari and former Director Bhandari of the Civil Aviation Authority in a special court. The charge sheet has named Director General Adhikari, then Director Murari Bhandari, then Deputy Manager and current Manager Bikram Thapa, then Senior Officer and current Deputy Manager Samriddhi Shrestha, consultant Gurudatta Adhikari, Abhiyantra Consulting Pvt. Ltd. and the then director of the company Vijay Thapa as defendants. 4 people are absconding.
A collective fine of Rs 135.746 million 213.77 paisa has been imposed on all of them.
