The National Human Rights Commission has expressed concern over the incident between UML cadres and the Genji group in Simara, Bara on Wednesday and the situation that arose thereafter.

Issuing a statement today, the commission has urged to strengthen the peace and security situation and respect each other's rights. The commission has also stated that it is monitoring the incident.

'The party's central leaders were going to Simara to participate in a Madhesh province-level pre-planned program organized by the UML's sister organization, the National Youth Union Nepal, in Parwanipur, Bara on Mangsir 30, and after the coordinator of the local Genji group made a call on Facebook on Mangsir 20 and 21, at around 10:30 am, the Genji youth gathered at Simara Chowk to alert the government about the fact that the deceased and injured of Bhadra 23 and 24 had not received justice,' the statement issued by the commission's spokesperson Tikaram Pokharel said. 'After the UML cadres reached the place, an argument broke out between the two sides and an unusual situation arose, in which five youths were injured.'

Then the angry crowd moved towards Simara airport. The airport gate was damaged in the clash in front of the airport, flights were affected, and UML leaders were unable to go to Simara due to the affected flights, the commission said. 'After that, it has been found that the local administration has issued a curfew order in the Simara area. The commission has received initial information that the injured were treated at the city hospital and the injured youths have filed a complaint against the person who attacked them at the local police office,' the statement said.

In the context of the evolving political situation in the country and the upcoming election on Falgun 21, the Commission has urged the Government of Nepal and all concerned parties to be serious about the incident, which will not create a smooth environment for the election and will also have a serious impact on peace and security. The Commission has expressed concern that such an incident will violate the right to freedom as mentioned in Article 17 of the Constitution and will also have an adverse impact on mutual goodwill among the election stakeholders.

The Commission has directed the Government of Nepal to strengthen the peace and security situation, prevent such incidents from recurring in the future, create an environment that respects the freedom of thought and expression of all parties, investigate the incident and provide effective treatment to the injured.
