On August 24, when the houses of former Prime Minister Deuba and Dahal were set on fire, the video and photos of burning money were immediately spread on social media, but the team of the Asset Laundering Investigation Department reached Deuba's residence after 12 days and Dahal's residence after 14 days and made a bond.

The Money Laundering Investigation Department has delayed the investigation against former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Pushpa Kamal Dahal and former Minister Deepak Khadka. Although the video and pictures of Nepali and foreign currency burning when the protestors burnt the house on August 24th were immediately circulated on social media, the department raised the bond and started the investigation only after about two weeks.
On August 24, the protesters ransacked and set fire to the houses of Congress President Deuba, Central Member Khadka and Maoist Chairman Dahal. During that time, people went inside the house and took out money and later posted videos and photos of burning notes on social media. The day after tomorrow, videos of people searching for something in the ruins were also released. After the fire, the government provided police protection outside the burnt houses of the leaders and barred them from entering.
The team of the Asset Laundering Investigation Department reached the residence of Deuba and Khadka in Budhanilkanth on October 5. On 6th of October, they reached the residence of Dahal in Khumaltar only on 7th of October. The team collected pieces of burnt notes, ashes and other details from the wreckage. An officer of the department informed that the collected sample has been sent to the forensic science laboratory for testing. "Videos and pictures were published on social media saying that large sums of money were found in the houses of various leaders," he said. In a statement issued by Deuba's personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, it is said, "The scenes shown on social media are fanciful, exaggerated and misleading as well as spread with the intention of defamation." Former Prime Minister Deuba has been in a position of public benefit continuously since 2048. Deuba has been winning from Dadeldhura in all the elections since 2048. He continuously won the House of Representatives and Constituent Assembly elections in 2048, 2051, 2056, 2064, 2070, 2074 and 2079. Deuba became the Home Minister in 2048. Since then he became Prime Minister 5 times in 2052, 2058, 2061, 2074 and 2078.
Deuba-wife Arju Rana was proportional MP from Congress in 2064, 2070 and 2079. She was the foreign minister in the KP Sharma Oli-led government that was overthrown by the Gen-G rebellion. Arju was not investigated despite allegations of acquiring wealth through public contracts, transfers, promotions and public appointments. Arju's name was also involved in the business of sending Nepalese citizens to America as fake Bhutanese refugees. His name was also mentioned in the Tikapur land irregularity case. Arju was not investigated in both these cases.
Another former prime minister and Maoist chairman Dahal came to parliamentary politics after the political changes of 2062/63. Since then he has been Prime Minister three times. During this period, the Maoists have shared power about a dozen times. During the armed conflict that lasted from 2052 to 2062, the leaders/activists who worked in the Maoist conflict have been alleging that money and gold and silver were stolen from banks/financial institutions and that the looted money was embezzled by the leadership. It is alleged that after the peace process, the money given by the government for the maintenance of Maoist fighters was embezzled.
The Auditor General's Office had denied the fact that it had embezzled government funds by showing fake fighter details. Later, after coming to the government, he is accused of "interfering and making fraud" in the office of the General Accountant. But there has been no research on this matter either. Dahal was living in the house of controversial contractor Sharda Adhikari, the same house was set on fire by protesters on August 24.
Congress leader Khadka was involved in a controversy when he was the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation while awarding licenses and awarding contracts for hydropower projects. He was accused of transacting checks 'in the minister's quarters and in the ministry' to get licenses and contracts for his favourites. Similarly, he was involved in embezzlement of Nepal Scout's land in Lainchour. Even in this, no effective investigation has been done by the government mechanism.
Former AIG Shah says - 'The house should have been secured and the investigation started as soon as the information was received'
Prime Minister Sushila Karki of the interim government addressed the nation on Thursday and promised to investigate the corruption and bring the culprits to justice. "The current government has received clear information regarding corruption in the past in a short period of time, so the necessary investigation will be carried out and the process of action will be taken against the culprits," she said.
Former DIG of Nepal Police Hemant Malla says that all suspected matters such as corruption, laundering of black money, exploitation of state resources under the cover of policy decisions, transfer and promotion transactions should be brought under the scope of investigation.
How did the Deuba couple get their passports on holiday?
He says that the investigation of money laundering is not as complicated as other heinous crimes, and only when the background of the past and present is examined, it will be clear. How was the land of the person who is going to be investigated before and how is it now? The research should look at the gap between these, if there is an incredible change in the lifestyle and economic conditions, then what is the legitimate source of this, should be investigated, he says.
At 2:44 pm on 25th August, a video was posted by a
TikTok user named 'Sivandi 3',
, in which burnt notes are shown in the Deuba residence in Budhanilkanth. It is written in the video, "Sher Bahadur should see the destruction of money in the house of the corrupt." If the poor people had this, the condition of the country would have been better.' In the video, the person has shown the halved 1000 and 500 notes. On 11th September i.e. 25th August at 8:37 PM, a Tiktok user named 'Nepali Dot Firefiles' posted a video by writing '
Deuba Niwasma met paisa'. The next day at 4:45 PM, a TikTok user named 'Viral VideoHub 5' also posted that video as a . In the video, half-burned notes of one thousand and five hundred are seen. In the voiceover of the video, it is heard, 'Hain ho dai, just to see this... money, dollars. Sab paisa yo jaleko.' These videos are not created using AI. Various fact-checkers have shown that these videos are true. The video of money flying in the sky has also spread on social media. A video of money notes flying into the sky from a burning house went viral on social media on August 24. This video was uploaded by a Facebook user named 'Rajan Budhathoki'
. The user uploaded this video on Facebook on 24 August at 12:39 PM. Other users posted similar videos. There are two common themes in those videos – burning houses and flying money. The house seen in the video belongs to former energy minister and Congress leader Deepak Khadka. All those videos are not 'curated'. There has been a video that money was also found in the house of Maoist Chairman Dahal. A Tiktok user named 'Raj Kandel.55' posted a video on 27th August at 4:38 PM saying 'Prachanda Ko Gama Paisa'. In the 3 minutes and 17 seconds long video, it is shown that bundles of money are being burnt. A person who spoke in the
video said, "People here are starving because they can't pay rent and can't eat." One thousand note in Prachanda's house O My God. This can be done by stripping the poor naked. A person seen in the video is also seen trying to remove an object that looks like a wad of money. But the notes made in the house of Deuba and Khadka are not seen in the video. Not all the videos showing money at the leader's house are true. Some misleading videos have also spread on social media. A Tiktok user named 'Gyan Prakashkarki' posted a video on 28 August at 3:11 p.m., which says 'Sher Bahadur Deuba House US Dollar'. In that video, wet notes are seen lying in the soil. But that video was found to be viral since last July 14. Not sure where the video is from.
