The Supreme Court has rejected (refused to register) a writ against the ban on social media.
Advocate Sunilranjan Singh filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court under public concern. Supreme Court Registrar Man Bahadur Karki filed a writ saying that the government has called for social media registration based on the Supreme Court's decision. The government has banned social networks including Facebook for not being included in the
list. On Thursday, the Ministry of Communication gave the Nepal Telecommunication Authority permission to ban social networks that have not been listed within the specified time frame.
The full bench of the Supreme Court issued a directive order in the name of the Government of Nepal to evaluate and monitor unwanted content before operation of domestic or foreign online and social media platforms of domestic or foreign origin in the contempt of court case (case no. 080-CF-0012).
