Relatives of Nepali people who went missing in the floods that occurred two weeks ago in Harshil area of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India have started returning home. After searching for two weeks, the missing persons were not found, and the relatives started returning home. Relatives walked from Dharali for a day on foot to Uttarkashi and prepared to take a bus from there.
Ganesh Bahadur Singh of Taligaon, Kushe Rural Municipality-2 of Jajarkot said, "We have not found anything in Bagar for two weeks, and now there is no chance of finding anything."
Singh's brother Karna Bahadur has disappeared after falling into the flood of Dharali. Karna Bahadur, who had reached Dharali for his mother's treatment, went missing after falling into the flood. He also took his mother along with him. Karn, who was treating his mother at his uncle's dera near Uttarkashi, had gone to Dharali for employment.
He said that he reached Uttarkashi in the afternoon after walking from Harshil area on Wednesday morning. According to him, the relatives of Ram Bahadur Singh, Nim Bahadur Singh and Robin Singh who disappeared in the Dharali flood are also going to return home. Singh said that they reached Uttarkashi late in the evening and boarded a bus on Thursday morning as they had traveled late from Dharali.
21 Nepalis are missing due to Dharali flood. Out of which only 5 people from Singh's village are missing . Among the missing, Man Bahadur's relatives are still in Dharali and they will not return immediately, he said.
"Now the search has slowed down, many Nepalis who were there have returned home," Singh said, "Now they have disappeared, there is no possibility of finding them alive, they also had to do their kiriya".
"Now there is no possibility that even if we go to this bagar, we will be found missing," Prakash Budha of Kailali Tikapur said, "We are also preparing to go to Haridwar and do the kiriya." He has also called relatives from home for the kiriya. He said that he is planning to walk from home on Thursday morning and after walking on Thursday, he will reach Haridwar by Friday. After that, he said that he will return home after doing kiriya in Haridwar.
Budha's brother Ramesh and daughter-in-law Priya are missing. They had reached Dharali four months ago for employment. Most of the Nepalis go to that area with their families for employment. Two weeks ago, after the 'cloud burst' in the Harsheel area of Uttarkashi district, the heavy flood in the Kheerganga river has turned the Dharali market into a rager. Gegran brought by the flood has eroded up to 30/35 feet . According to the Nepali Embassy in Delhi, 21 Nepalis are missing due to the same flood. However, the complete details of the missing Nepalis have not been collected yet, according to the embassy.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center of Uttarakhand, 68 people have gone missing due to the flood. More than 1,300 people have been rescued from that area by helicopter. The search and rescue work is still going on, the center said.
Dharali market on Gangotri Marg used to be very busy before the flood. From working in hotels to picking apples and working in various development and construction sectors, Nepalese have come to Dharali. Some are also cultivating vegetables by renting land.
Even now four/five families are farming by renting land. Gangotri Yatra has also been closed after severe floods in Dharali. Gangotri Yatra runs from Baisakh/June to October/October. The journey has been disrupted after floods and landslides destroyed the road in Harshil area.
The Nepalese who went to work in Dharali and Gangotri have returned home after being unemployed. The relatives of the missing persons have been searching until now and now they are going to return home hoping to be found.
"All the Nepalis here have returned home, those who rented land and cultivated vegetables, they are the only ones left," said the old man of Kailali Tikapur, "The relatives of the missing were hoping to be found until now, now they are also going to return." They are stranded due to the flood and are also facing problems due to lack of expenses .
