The Auditor General's office has pointed out that the lands of Tribhuvan, Sanskrit and Sudurpaschim universities have been encroached upon.
In the annual report submitted by the Auditor General Toyam Raya to the President Ramchandra Paudel on Wednesday, it has been mentioned that these universities have not been able to use and protect the land.
There is 1,479 hectares of land in the university, and it is reported that the land in the central office complex has also been encroached upon. It is said that 113 ropanis have been occupied by a private school for 15 years, 15 ropanis by one organization and 13 ropanis by two organizations.
It is also mentioned in the report that the university has not received any income due to the occupation of the said land. Although the committee formed by the government to investigate the land of Tertiary University submitted its study report to the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the report has not been made public yet.
Similarly, out of the 380 bigha land of Sudurpaschim University, 300 bigha land has been encroached upon in the General Accounts Report. The report also mentions that there is a dispute over the ownership of 12 bighas of Sanskrit University. Similarly, out of the land in Deukhuri and Balezhundi of Dang, 1,371 ropani land has been under encroachment since 2058.
"The properties of the universities should be kept under the central control and coordinated with the relevant agencies and should be used for income-generating activities in addition to the proper protection of the encroached land," the report said.
