Atrocities against Dalits in the name of Maha Yagya: Two arrested including village head

Shivji Yadav, president of Aurhi Rural Municipality, has been arrested in the incident of rape on a Dalit family in the name of Maha Yagya in Siraha. Along with him, former ward president Dilip Yadav has also been arrested by the police.

Police Chief of Madhesh Province Lalmani Acharya informed that they were taken into custody on Friday evening. He told Kantipur that they are being interrogated and will file a complaint with the victim's family on Saturday.

The house of Deepak Malik Dom, a Dalit from Aurhi-5 in Siraha, was demolished to perform the Maha Yagya. Bajrangi Baba, the organizer, said that Dalits should not sit around the pavilion of the Mahayagya and do not have a relationship. Deepak's house was ordered to be demolished. Then Shivji Yadav, chairman of the rural municipality, sent a dozer and demolished the house. Even the soil of the house where the Dalits lived was said to be impure.

The group led by Bajrangi Baba, rural municipality president Yadav and former ward president Dilip Yadav has uprooted the Dalit family and built a secluded tower beyond the human settlement. The ``Janata Awas Program'' had built a two-room concrete house for the poor Dom family, who had been living there for 30 years, with the coordination of the village council 5 years ago with the budget of the central government. But last February 10, the house was demolished by using the dozer of the municipality.
