An arrest warrant has also been issued in Chitwan to investigate Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of the RSVP and former home minister, on charges of fraud and organized crime. The Chitwan District Court on Friday allowed the police to conduct an investigation against 10 people including former managing director of Gorkha Media Network Lamichhane, former vice president and former DIG Chabilal Joshi.

 

24 savers of Sahara Chitwan Cooperative filed a supplementary complaint with the police on Wednesday against Lamichhane, who is also the Member of Parliament of Chitwan-2. Inspector Laxman KC of the District Police Office said permission was obtained from the District Court to conduct the investigation as per the complaint. 

According to Chitwan Police, along with Lamichhane and Joshi, GB Group of Companies directors Vishal Tamang, Naveen Achami, Ravina Rimal and Ashraf Ali Siddiqui, Nature Nest Pvt. Ltd. owner Deepak Lama, Springwood Real Estate and Housing Pvt. Ltd. owner Bhagwati Bamjan and Nature Herbs International Pvt. Ltd. owner Kavita Tamang And an arrest warrant has been issued against Ram Bahadur Khanal. It has been found that illegal funds have gone from Sahara Chitwan to that company. 

Lamichhane and Joshi have already been arrested and are in Kaski police custody for investigation into offenses related to cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering. They were arrested during an investigation into the embezzlement of Suryadarshan Cooperative of Pokhara. In the meantime, the Rupandehi police have taken statements against both of them in the case of embezzlement of the savings of Supreme Cooperative of Butwal. 

Kathmandu Police had also issued an arrest warrant against Lamichhane and Joshi to investigate the misappropriation of Swarnalakshmi Cooperative's savings. The Kathmandu police, who have taken a statement on Joshi, are preparing to hand over Lamichhane. 

Khanal, the owner of Nature Herbs International, is also in the custody of the Kaski police after being arrested for investigation into the misappropriation of funds of Suryadarshan Cooperative. The saver has mentioned in the complaint that 108 million rupees from Sahara Chitwan went to Gorkha media against the rules. 

Based on the complaint filed by the savers of Sahara Chitwan in October last year, the police have already filed a case against 17 other people in the district court. In the indictment filed in the court, it was mentioned that 376 million 65 million 84 thousand 546 rupees should be paid to the cooperative of 446 savers. While filing the case, District Attorney Shanti Prasad Luintel instructed the police to further investigate the transaction of 47 million rupees from the amount deposited in the Global IME Bank account of Gorkha Media, which is said to have gone from Sahara Chitwan. Chitwan Police's investigation showed that 52.32 million 85 thousand 308 rupees savings were accumulated in the

cooperative. There are 6 thousand 334 savers in Sahara Chitwan Cooperative. 

The Parliamentary Inquiry Special Committee on misappropriation of savings of co-operatives concluded that Geetendra Babu (GB) Rai illegally took 65 crore rupees from five co-operatives operated in different cities to Gorkha Media. In the report submitted by the committee on August 31, it was recommended for investigation and action against Gorkha Media Chairman GB Rai, Managing Director Ravi Lamichhane, the then directors Chabilal Joshi and Kumar Ramtel. Ramtel was arrested last August and is in custody pending trial, Rai is absconding. Joshi was arrested on October 6 and Lamichhane was arrested on October 2 from Kathmandu for implementing the report of the Special Parliamentary Inquiry Committee.
