The Koshi barrage control room has issued a 'red alert' after the water flow in Koshi has increased excessively. According to the measurement at 1 pm on Saturday, 5 lakh 21 thousand cusecs of water per second is flowing through the Koshi Barrage.
All the 56 gates of the barrage have been opened since 8 am on Saturday. In 1962, when the structure of Koshi Barrage came into operation, it was said that the capacity to flow 950,000 cusecs of water.
But in recent days, due to the accumulation of sand near the bridge of Koshi barrage, the flow capacity of the barrage has decreased.
The Koshi Barrage Control Room has informed that the flow may increase further as the rain is continuing. For the safety of the general public, traffic has been temporarily suspended at the Koshi Barrage Bridge.
