The government has allocated a budget of 2 trillion 3.66 billion to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the next financial year. In the current financial year, 1 trillion 97 billion 29 crores were allocated to the education sector. The allocated budget for the next fiscal year is 6 billion more than the current fiscal year.
But in terms of the percentage of the total budget, a lower budget has been allocated in the education sector than in the current year. In 2080/081, 11.26 percent of the budget was allocated, while for 2081/082, it is limited to 10.09 percent. The government and political parties have been repeating their commitment to spend at least 20 percent of the total budget on education.
Finance Minister Varshman Pun, while presenting the budget, said that the budget was made by giving priority to the development of social sectors including education, health. Finance Minister Pun said that 600 million has been set aside to provide scholarships at the school level to expand access to education for children from the underprivileged and marginalized groups. It has been announced that the scholarship will be awarded to students from classes 6 to 12. It is mentioned in the budget that 87 crores have been allocated for the Presidential Educational Reform Program.
It has been announced that water supply and toilets will be constructed in 500 schools in the coming financial year. A budget of 2 billion 500 million has been allocated to build 1000 classrooms that are disabled friendly, gender sensitive and safe. Finance Minister Pun said that a budget of 1.59 billion has been allocated for the technical sector and 21.45 billion for higher education.
