The Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (Akorab) Nepal has said that it has drawn serious attention to the incident of the arrest of Kailash Sirohia, managing director of Kantipur Media Group from the office.
Although there is no doubt that the state agency can investigate any allegation, this incident has raised some serious doubts, according to the statement issued by Akorab.
It is not difficult to understand that Sirohia, the managing director of Kantipur Publications, who is constantly publishing news about the involvement of the Home Minister in the co-operative fraud case, was arrested from the working room while he was saying that he would help in the judicial investigation of the allegations against him, that it is a target and revenge by the state against the independent press. It is a reprehensible step to imprison the head of a journalistic organization unnecessarily. Independent journalism is the cornerstone of democracy. The media should be allowed to do their work fearlessly and freely. In a
statement, the police administration has said that it is not appropriate to target journalists in this way and strongly opposes the incident and has requested the government to uphold democratic values.
