Kavi Biplava Prateik looks elegant and simple like his poems. Love, humanity and deep contemplation of life are found in his poems. Prateek's 'Nahareko Manobu' (anthology), Avijit (novel) has been published. There is also a strong presence of symbols in songs and plays. Edited version of the five questions asked with the same poet for E-Kantipur:
What book have you read recently?
Recently, I had the opportunity to translate Amon Butler's world-famous book 'An Introduction to Economic Equality'. This book completely changed my thinking . The book says that no one is equal in the world, dreaming of equality means subjugating the people. It says that the need should be met and the gap of poverty should be bridged . Instead of advocating equality, it is intended to think about how to 'meet' people's needs.
Your favorite fiction?
Taking the name of only one book is unfair to other books . Books are knowledge And it is the thing that brings the sensitivity of people to a higher place.
Your favorite non-fiction? There are many
s. When I remember now, Yuval Noah Harari's 'Sepinus' and the rest of the series were very enjoyable. This book tells about anthropology in detail . I am a person who loves people very much . People who don't like discrimination. That book says that whatever caste and country we are, our roots come from Africa . We all had the same parents in the beginning . It made a huge impact on me.
A book that came out recently but you haven't read it?
I haven't been able to read a new book since I've been busy with creative writing. I like to read Harari's 'Nexus'. After being a fan of someone, one cannot sit down and read the books written by him . I rarely read a book recommended by someone . I have my own choice . Certain writers, like Vishweshwar Prasad Koirala, if I get a book, I will buy it and read it immediately .
Book recommendation for the new generation ?
I tell the new generation to look for good books. After reading a book, you will realize that there is a difference in thinking. A person is definitely enlightened when he understands what the world imagined by the author is like. That's why reading is a must. Fixation, non-fixation, the history of the world or about your surroundings should have a general knowledge of economic, social and political things . May you later become a writer or an entrepreneur. Or any actor . The book will always help you .
I now remember things I read as a teenager . At that time I read Agnidiksha by Nikolai Ostrovsky . I was 16 at the time . After reading that book, I understood that life is not disturbed when any sorrow comes, you have to learn to celebrate the sorrow so that it does not happen again, for that you need sadhana . No one knows when the rope of life will snap. Even when I remember that book, I get emotional .
I recommend that book and the best book in the world . Avoid one bad book . I can't suggest a bad book. Your intuition says . As soon as you see something, your intuition awakens . Everyone has their own opinion about how they take literature. I think that a good literature is a combination of all three things, anthropology, social science, psychology. Be it poetry or prose . or any memoir .
I think anthropology doesn't count as a social science . I think that social science is the study of society only by us. Psychology is the study of the individual . The writer thinks that everything is with me . I say these four things help each other. The day when all these things start helping each other, a new kind of narrative will start in the society.
