A caring mother of five sons

What is the thing that can't be compared to anyone in the world? UML chief whip Mahesh Kumar Bertaula says, 'Mother's love.' While wandering through memory, Mahesh remembers the series of sacrifices made by mothers for their children.

"And that is till today," he asks himself, echoing his heart's interjection, "Is there any height above mother's love?"

Mother began to lose from that time, when she felt that she had gained the greatest thing in the world. What were those huge things that mom felt? “Ramesh, Dinesh, Umesh, Mahesh and Naresh,” he names his five brothers. Sanumaya Bertaula used to tell her sons stories of labor pains. She used to tell about the realization after the intense pain and the satisfaction it gave.

Before the birth of Dai Ramesh, there was more concern and concern for the family and the society than the mother's health, 'Son or daughter?' Mahesh's father, who was employed, was out of the house at that time. Sanumaya endured excruciating labor pains without anyone's help and gave birth to her first son, Ramesh. Everyone's face lit up when Ramesh was born. "A son is born, he is lucky," Mahesh reflects on the social psychology of that time.

Sanumaya was born in 2016 in Namtar of Makwanpur. She got married to Govind Bertaula of Namtar. After marriage, she had a routine of waking up at 3 am, cleaning the house and doing the housework in the yard until the sun set. She read simple articles. Govind had passed SLC, he was in teaching profession. That job was also lost in 2039. In the same year, his close relatives encouraged him to rise to the Pradhan Panch. Govinda won the election. "But the person who encouraged my father to stand up in the election, the person who encouraged my father also stood up as his competitor on the day of nomination registration," says Mahesh.

According to Mahesh, the man, who is related to Ba, told Ba when he was going to register his candidacy, "Babe, I was under pressure from everyone." No matter who wins, the brothers will win. Now let us compete. Govinda lost in the election by a small margin. No job, no politics. For a long time he was depressed. "After Bahudal, my father joined the job again," says Mahesh.

Due to his busy life, Govind was out of the house most of the time. All the weight of the house fell on Sanumaya's feet. Moreover, when she gives birth to a child, she will always be alone. The same thing happened when Mahesh was born in 2040. Mami was out of the house when the pain started. He came home crawling. After I was born, she cut the Christmas tree by herself,' he recounts the incident narrated by his mother. Where was the facility to go to the hospital? All the five siblings of Mahesh were born in the house. Mahesh has a vague memory when his younger brother Naresh was born. On that day, Sanumaya said to her eldest son, "Today is difficult for me." You don't go to school.'

The sons, who had been difficult for their mother since morning, got the trick, but they had no idea what happened. Sanumaya sent the remaining sons to school. When we came home from school in the afternoon, my little brother was in my mother's arms. Dai was feeding mummy with jawano jhol,' Mahesh remembers about that strange scene that seemed like a miracle to him.

Mother was as loving as she was strict. The mother's only tool to stop her sons' bullying was the stick. Mahesh still remembers many of the scenes before him, chasing after his mother with a stick. Once four brothers started fighting while playing in the backyard. The angry mother came to know, carrying a stick in her hand. All four jumped from the bungle to avoid being beaten by their mother. However, the mother did not stop. They kept running. They returned home only after their mother's anger subsided.

Mahesh's brother always refuses to go to school. Mother used to take my brother to school and return home. When he reached home, he was playing in the yard with his son Mast, whom he had taken to school. Ajit's mother took her to school with a sigh. That's how my brother, who applied to study at the school, got the first board in ICOM. It was the mother who was the happiest,' recalls Mahesh.

Mahesh was one of the sons who was beaten less by Sanumaya. He used to do all the household chores that his mother did. He did most of the housework, from cleaning the house, cooking to cutting the grass and tilling the fields. During Teej, mothers around would die. But the housework would always deprive the mother of death. After a while, Mahesh took charge of his mother's work and started sending him home. "That's why grandparents used to send something special for their grandchild," recalls Mahesh. Four brothers equally helped to raise the younger brother.

From a young age, the siblings were very aware of one thing, 'Don't make your mother cry.' Seeing tears in their mother's eyes used to distract them. Once there was a quarrel in the house, the father put his hand on the mother. The mother sent Mahesh and Milo Dai home crying. Mahesh and Dinesh reached Mamaghar and started a fight. Maternal grandfather came home with them and put the baby to sleep. A mother's affection was equal to five children. As the sons came to understand, they became like friends to the mother. He used to address his mother as 'you' when he loved her very much. When he was angry, he used to address 'you'. Even now, that address remains.

Raising five children alone was not easy. But Sanumaya never told her sons about her pain. Mahesh still remembers those days. Mother used to feed her sons first, if there was no left over she would starve. Never thinking about gaining, always only losing. That too for the sons. Mahesh is surprised to remember this extraordinary love of his mother.

Mahesh and other four brothers contributed after the mother, while the elder brother Ramesh remained. Ramesh became his mother's charioteer from an early age. Before SLC, the mother was very worried about her elder son. The elder brother was like a fighter in the village. He used to play group fights with his friends. He used to carry a knife inside his shoes. Mahesh remembers that his mother was shocked when she found out. But gradually Ramesh was oppressed by the feeling of being the elder of the house. He started becoming like a parent. Brothers had to fulfill their responsibilities. Dai took a good route. And we also followed the path of my brother,' says Mahesh.

After giving SLC, Ramesh rushed to India to find a job to help his family. He earned some money during three months and brought it. Dai, who started teaching after passing SLC, is still enjoying himself among the students. When the elder brother started working, the financial condition of the house started to change.

Mahesh's student politics began in 2053 when he was studying in class 7. Before that, two incidents had ignited a political spark in him.

'Taha' actor Rupchandra Bisht sometimes used to walk through the road near his house. Once, while returning home from school, Rupchandra called the child Mahesh from beyond in his own style, 'Hey Bate, come here.' Mahesh approached Rupchandra like an obedient student. The collar of Mahesh's shirt in school uniform was green. He shouts from the window of Mirmire Smriti, 'He put the stamp of Simrik color on my shirt and walked away. After going to school wearing the same dress, the class teacher muttered and scolded her and said - she will not come to school tomorrow wearing this dress. There was no condition to buy a new shirt. Even though he was scolded by the teacher, he continued to come to school with the mark of that knowledge on his shirt.

2050 Madan Bhandari died in a Dasdhunga accident on 3rd June. The entire country was shocked by Bhandari's death. At that time, Hiranyalal Shrestha had reached Mahesh's village with a microphone in his hand to sell his goods. "His remains have also been taken across the country to be buried. So many people are mourning in his honor. I thought that a leader should be like this,' Mahesh remembers. Later, while studying in class 7, the seniors came to form the organization of Aneraswaviyu. After praising Madan Bhandari there, Mahesh thought, 'If Madan Bhandari's party is there, I will join.'

After that, Mahesh, who was active in student politics, also became the central president through the campus. He won from Makwanpur-2 in the House of Representatives elections of 2079. Mahesh's mother has always been on the right side of his political journey. She never stopped when she had to go far and wide for the program. But gradually, when her son's name and photo were published in local newspapers, she started to get angry.

Mahesh's brother Dinesh became famous because of his studies in college. Everyone knew him as Dinesh Bertaula's brother. Mahesh often felt, 'I should be known by my own name.' His education was average. However, through social work and political campaigns, he made himself widely known. When he was studying in class 12, armed war was going on in the country. At that time, when there was a ceasefire, he went on a Mechi-Mahakali cycle trip with a companion. The aim of this campaign was to make the ceasefire successful. During the 67-day journey of preaching peace, there was news that the ceasefire had been broken again. In the meantime, there was no telephone, we were unaware of our family. No matter where we went, we used to get in touch with Radio Nepal. Radio used to make news,' Mahesh remembers. When she reached home, the mother, who was sitting in a worried posture, was very happy to see her son. Mahesh became an MP and felt happiest in his mother's eyes.

Even now, the mother calls her sons every now and then. If Mahesh has to go out of Kathmandu, he always informs his mother. "If I am going out of Kathmandu, I get a call every now and then. Four times a day, they ask where you have been, what you have eaten,' Mahesh narrates. After Mahesh became active in politics, criticisms and criticisms also come from time to time. This is what worries mothers the most these days. He is very sad if he has to listen to criticism on TV sometimes. Dhan doesn't know how to read comments on social media. Otherwise, he would have been unconscious," says Mahesh with a laugh.

Once that happened to Ba. Mahesh spoke in Parliament against the court's decision while speaking on a matter. A defamation case was filed against him. My case expired in Tameli Hetaunda. Accidentally missed the deadline. Case from the Supreme Court against the son who was sent to Kathmandu as a Member of Parliament. The father, who was shocked that his son was successful, sat there in a daze. It's like being unconscious for a while," adds Mahesh Prashant.

Mahesh's five brothers are all active in their respective fields. Eldest teacher, Milo Dai CEO at Hydro Company, Mahesh MP, Kaillo Jaggery and younger one in America. The mother keeps saying to all the five sons, 'You should drink water instead, stay hungry. But don't do anything wrong anywhere. Instead, walk on an empty goji. Don't cross the limit in the name of luxury.'

Mahesh thinks that all the five brothers are talking about their mother. No matter where he goes, no matter how high he rises, Mahesh feels that no brother walks the path that his mother does not want. "Mother has been warning us every day with a stick at the main gate inside the border. That's why we are cautious on the way we walk," Mahesh sounds proud.
