In the current fiscal year, 3 billion 300 million rupees have been allocated for the postal highway, and 3 billion 56 million rupees have been allocated for the next fiscal year. Which is slightly more than the current year.
Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said that work is underway to complete its construction within two years. However, even though it has been 16 years since the construction of the postal highway, the work has not been completed yet. In some park areas, the dispute about the road layout has not been resolved. The postal highway directorate said that the budget problem to increase the speed of construction is the same.
Its construction was started from the year 066/67 to connect the district headquarters of Terai East-West. So far the progress is only 71 percent. According to the concept of connecting the land from Kechnakaval in Jhapa to Dodhara Chandni in Kanchanpur in the west, its construction process has been started. Its construction has been started to benefit about one crore people of 21 districts of Terai-Madhesh.
The total distance of the highway is 1,857.42 km. It includes 882.42 km of subsidiary roads. So far, only 1,254.68 km of roads have been paved. According to the revised schedule, the deadline is up to the year 083/84. When the project started, the initial cost estimate was Rs 47 billion 24 crore. Later it was revised to 65 billion 20 million. Now its cost is increasing to 1 trillion 1 billion 93 crore rupees. So far 66 billion 10 million 33 lakh rupees have been spent.
