Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has called a meeting of the Governor Selection Recommendation Committee. Finance Minister Paudel called a meeting of the committee on Tuesday afternoon when the Congress and UML were entangled in the appointment of the governor for almost two months.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also called a cabinet meeting. After the recommendation of the committee, the cabinet meeting will appoint the governor. A few days ago, the government formed a new recommendation committee under the coordination of Finance Minister Paudel for the selection of the governor.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday abolished the previous recommendation committee and formed a new committee. Mahaprasad Adhikari from the former governor and Posh Raj Pandey are among the expert members in the new committee formed under the coordination of Finance Minister Paudel.
Pandey came to the post after the resignation of the previous expert member of the committee, Vishwa Paudel. According to the provisions of the Banks and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia), the government had formed the Governor's Recommendation Committee on March 11.
Former governor Vijayanath Bhattarai, a member of the original committee, resigned saying that the meeting was not held for a month and the committee had no role in the selection of the governor. After that, the government appointed outgoing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari as a member in his place.
It is said that Congress and UML have agreed to make Vishwa Poudel the governor. That is why Paudel has resigned from the committee. The post of Governor is vacant in Rasht Bank since 25th March. The responsibility of Kamu Governor has been given to Senior Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana Timsina.
