Shivji Poudel, Medical Director of Bharatpur Cancer Hospital, has expressed the intention that it will be difficult to operate such a large medical college in the country and provide quality services due to the small amount received from the tax fund.
In the third session of 'Chitwan Chintan' organized by Kantipur Media Group in Chitwan on Thursday, Dr. Paudel said that about 25 million rupees are coming from the tax fund annually and that is why the hospital has to be run . According to him, the annual expenditure of the last fiscal year was 1 billion 80 million rupees.
'This hospital was established in 2049 after an agreement was reached between then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Chinese Prime Minister Li Feng in 2043 that the cancer hospital's tax fund would receive one penny from a cigarette and that money should be used to run the hospital,' he said. The 33/34 crore rupees coming from the tax fund during the operation of the hospital on the bed has gradually decreased to about 25 crore rupees now. How does the 450-bed hospital run today with that money? 25 crores can no longer run a medical college.'
However, he informed that the medical college is going to add 50 beds to reach 500 beds in the current year considering simple, accessible and quality service as its religion. He said that the government should be careful about where to invest and how much to invest. "Let's not build houses in places and just put up pillars," he urged, "instead, let's build and harmonize the ready-made houses, and supply the necessary equipment."
