Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey has said that airline companies have not applied for the operation of Bhairahwa and Pokhara airports despite providing various service facilities. In the fourth session of 'Chitwan Chintan' organized by Kantipur Media Group in Chitwan, Tourism Minister Pandey said that the action plan has been passed to operate the airport by providing concessional facilities.
He said that even though the Tribhuvan International Airport is carrying twice the capacity of passengers due to the inability of other airports to come into operation, airlines have not shown interest in other airports.
'We have passed the action plan to operate Bhairawa International Airport, Pokhara Regional Airport for two years,' he said, 'We have brought various facilities for airlines to operate their services at concessions.' Reducing fuel prices, He said that the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) has introduced the facility of removing the charges. He also said that the issue of value added tax (VAT) on airline tickets has been finalized.
He said that an action plan has been passed to establish immigration, labor office and quarantine for workers in Pokhara and Bhairahawa. "Despite the government announcing various service facilities, no new airline license was applied for in Pokhara, two or three airline licenses have been announced in Bhairahawa," he said. He says that the main challenge is how to get national and international passengers to fly out of Kathmandu and how to add attraction.
