Tenzing Hillary Airport, Lukla, which has not had a flight for 3 days, on the day of Dasain Tika, 32 planes took flight on Saturday. As the weather improved, the planes started taking off from 6 am on Saturday morning.
Lukla Airport Chief Umesh Panthi informed that there were 10 flights of Tara Air, 13 of Summit Air and 9 of Sita Air today. Similarly, until 4:30 in the afternoon, a total of 61 helicopters brought foreign tourists to Lukla, said Panthi. Since 12:30 noon today, due to unfavorable weather, other ships except helicopters could not fly. The airport has informed that the flight permission could not be granted since the weather has worsened since noon.
Today, 6500 foreign tourists entered Khumbu area by planes and helicopters, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire said. In mid-autumn, which is considered a suitable season for mountain viewing and trekking, there used to be an average of 150 flights per day. Flights were affected for 3 days due to unfavorable weather.
In Lukla, 90 percent of the flights are from Manthali in Ramechhap and the remaining 10 percent are direct flights from Tribhuvan Airport Kathmandu. On Saturday, 110 Nepalis also reached Lukla by plane to visit Khumbu region. Tourism professionals in Khumbu are hopeful that the weather will open from Sunday with the end of the monsoon.
Businessmen were disappointed that the ship could not come due to the weather during the season when the hotels are packed with tourists. Chhimikalden Sherpa, a tourism businessman from Namche, said that after more than 32 ships arrived today, they have hope.
