Chuden Kavimo is a strong storyteller in Nepali language. Recently, his new novel 'Urmaal' has been published. Chuden, a native of India's Kalimpong, has previously published a collection of stories '1986' and a novel 'Fatsung'. Chuden's recently published novel tells the story of a worker. "Urmaal is the story of the tea that most people start their day by drinking," says Chuden. The 'five questions' asked for E-Kantipur with Chuden:
The last book you read ? To work on
fiction, one should read the most non-fiction . The last book I read is DHE Sundar's 'Survey and Settlement of the Western Duars in the District Jalpaigudi, 1889-1895'. The book contains the history of how the British came to Dooars and how Awadi started. The struggle and history with Bhutan has come well . This is an old book. It is Dr. Edited by DC Roy .
Your favorite fiction?
My favorite novel is Pearl S. Buck's 'The Good Earth' is . This is a very old novel. This story shows the story of a village starving. The story of the common man's struggle is the most liked. The character named Wagalung is also shown in it . That's special . Before that character, life was going on without anything. Although there was a lot of suffering, life was moving forward with struggle . After a sudden change in life, he became financially prosperous. It seems that how the subsequent life will change, how his character will be changed in a skillful manner. After reading that novel written in a wide space, I always wanted to write such a novel in my life .
The second one is 'Blasphemy' by Pakistani writer Tahmina Durrani. I am still taking the name of that book. There is a story of exploitation of religious leaders on women in the Muslim society. How it is exploited there has been revealed. How common women have been exploited after getting married has been shown in a very good way.
Your favorite non-fiction ?
Being from Kalimpong, my favorite non-fiction book is 'Indian Tibet' by Sir Francis Eward Young Husband. In that book there is a deep dose on the history of Kalimpong and British Tibet. I really liked the book written by the author with his experience .
Book that came out recently but you haven't read it?
There are books released in India. The last two books of Sudhir Sharma, published in Nepal, have come out in the market - 'Himalpariko Huri' and 'Bhikshu, Biyar var Utrah' . I want to read these two books. I enjoyed reading his first book 'Laboratory'. He was also interested in reading the new book because he wrote it in connection with Tibet. I will read this time .
Which book would you recommend to the new generation?
Let's talk about books connected with society. Sahadat Hasan Manto's stories are very good . Anyone who wants to write a story can best learn how to write a story by reading Manto.
Among his borderline stories are stories of female sex workers . When he wrote this story at that time, he may have been scolded by many people. He may have been defamed as a pornographic writer . You may be scolded until you live . But when I read it now, I wonder how he wrote it at that time. I think the most beautiful part is how what we think is obscene is connected to her life. His book is 'My Name is Radha'. This book is my favorite. Another book is Benjamin's 'Khabuz' which I like very much. It has a story of migration . The story of the extreme struggle of a person who went to the Gulf country . I also recommend reading this . I also recommend reading the book named above .
