I cut bamboo (reed) to weave doko to my own tune. I weave doko. Earlier I used to sell it myself, now others sell it.

We, the Magar community, live in Khadar, Jhirubas, Nisdi Rural Municipality-3. My home is also here. I am now 70 years old. I am unable to do heavy work due to old age due to illness. My friends of my age are cutting grass and firewood. Seeing that also makes me want to do it. But what can I do? I have been suffering from diabetes for the past 10 years.
Earlier, I had to take regular medicine. Now, after taking medicine, my diabetes has come to a standstill. There is poverty in the village. Many families have problems feeding themselves. There is no development in the village. There was no running water till seven years ago. We had to go far to find a source to get water.
Now, there is drinking water facility, but it is not enough. We ourselves were engaged in building the road in the village. An organization called Helvetas dug a road from Mityal to Dharkesin. I also went to work as a wage laborer. Now, there is a dirty road. The previous District Development Committee and Village Development Committee did not pay much attention to this place. Many leaders left even after winning the elections. But if the voluntary forest development program had not come to the village, most of them would have gone to Arunkhola. There was no income here. It is more than 75 kilometers away from Tansen. Few people were educated. I didn't study either. Many people my age didn't study.
I earn 10 to 12 thousand a month by weaving dokos. But, due to the increase in price, that is not even enough to eat . It was a problem to manage the household expenses. Everyone went to Madhesh looking for a way to earn money. I also felt like going to the Terai. But, I was worried about what to do to earn money. I have four daughters and two sons. My daughter is married. My sons couldn't earn money either. I have to suffer as an old man. The expenses at home are high. I need cash because I am sick. I have to eat food (food, salt, spices). Earlier I used to weave two dokos a day. Now I weave one. One doko sells for 4 to 500. It is rarely sold in the village, most have to be sent to the market.
A Sunday market is held in Arunkhola, Nawalpur, on the Mahendra Highway . Goods can be sent on Saturdays and Sundays Politics did not let us eat. There is no happiness without work. There is no environment to earn money. After the establishment of the Kabuliyati Forest Group, the income from Amliso has become good. It has prevented migration. Not only this, the way to earn income has opened up. Ginger was planted. The market price was not available. Cardamom was cultivated. The drought destroyed everything. Now we are planting a little bit again. The rural municipality also did not show us a way to earn income. The ward has also not done much to generate financial income.
The rainy season and winter months come. You have to do your own work. I still remember carrying a sack of rice from Arunkhola for 100 rupees. But now it does not even come for 2000. Now I do not care about anyone. There is no such thing as political awareness in our village. Whatever the leader or village headman comes and says, do it.
I have spent my life cutting bamboo to make dokos in my own tune. I make dokos. Earlier I used to go there myself to sell them, now others sell them. It is very sad to cross the road coming from Rampur (Kaligandaki Corridor).
