'The small grocery store I opened in my village is the world to me'

After all, the climate of one's birthplace and the love of one's family are great. Now I run a shop in the village, talk to the people of my village, enjoy their laughter, this life has become a great satisfaction and inspiration for me.

'The small grocery store I opened in my village is the world to me'

What you should know

I have been making a living by doing general retail business for the past four years. Since I am not able to make ends meet through just doing retail business, I am selling cosmetics along with it. So far, the business has been going well.

I am a resident of Bhageshwor Rural Municipality-4, Bagarkot. There is no big market. I am running a small grocery shop on the side of the village's dirt road to earn some income and pass the time. My shop sells everything from soap, oil, powder, nail polish to bangles and bindis.

Although the shop is not big, it has started to feel like the world to me. My family's livelihood is from this. Since the shop is in my house, I do not charge rent. Before starting the shop, there was a police post in this house. At that time, the house was rented out to the police, so I used to earn a little money from that. Later, the post was moved elsewhere and the shutter became empty. Instead of keeping the shutter empty, I thought of opening a shop. I thought of running a shop myself in the empty space. Then I went into business. At first, I was afraid whether it would work or not. But, I gathered courage and took the business forward.

I use TikTok in my free time. I make fun and humorous videos, comedy has become my hobby. . Before starting my business, I worked in India for two years. I was a watchman there. I used to guard the gate in the morning and evening. I was living a lonely life amidst the flickering lights. I saved some money by working in India. But, my heart was never satisfied. When I worked there, employment was not only about earning, but also about satisfaction and relationships. Then I decided to do something in my own village and returned home. My morning starts with a cup of tea. As soon as I open the shop door after drinking tea, the daily routine starts in the shop. I spend the whole day with customers. Some ask for sugar, some for biscuits, some for salt, oil, some for sugar, tea leaves and soap.

The headquarters of Bhageshwor Rural Municipality is also nearby. The permanent customers here are local residents, people from neighboring villages and some employees of the rural municipality office. Sometimes people from other villages also enter the shop. I respect everyone as my permanent customer. Because not only the customers who come here, but all are acquaintances. I have passed 12th grade. After that, I could not study. The financial condition of the house was not strong, and after stopping my studies, the responsibilities increased. Taking care of my parents, family expenses. There was no business at that time, and the thought of going to India for employment came to me at that time. Employment in India gave me a little income, but it did not quench my thirst.

After all, the climate of my birthplace and the love of my family are great. Now I run a shop in the village, talk to the people of my village, enjoy their laughter, this life has become a great satisfaction and inspiration for me. Sometimes the ordered goods arrive late, sometimes there are fewer customers . Small successes and failures have taught me patience . I use TikTok in my free time . I make fun, humorous videos, humor has become my hobby . Even if someone makes a joking comment, I reply in a joking manner . Many have started calling me 'viral Pantji' . At first, I was surprised, but later I started enjoying it too . The ability to laugh and make others laugh is also an income in life!

Sometimes I think, if I had saved money abroad, I would have had a big shop, but I would have found satisfaction and love . Now the money is less, but my heart has become big and strong . I feel satisfaction in opening a shop in my own country rather than sweating in another country . The only thing life has taught me is that being yourself is more important than being big. That's why I can proudly say, I am here, I am happy in my own village.
