As a child, I could not go to school because of the mentality that Dalits should give priority to their profession over studies. That's why from the age of 6/7, I followed my father and wandered from village to village.

My residence is in Sharada Municipality-1 Shantinagar. To earn a living, my father used to go from village to village to make and repair Madal. He used to teach me some work while working and make me do it . I wondered what my father would have done when I was young. As I grew older, I realized that they were teaching me to make Madal.

When I was 14 years old, I was good at making models but I was not very good at making models. Sometimes I used to make Madal and most of the time I went to work . I could not get a daily wage job. Hamme Hamme happened to raise a family of eight. That's why I started the ancestral profession of making Madal according to the skills taught by my father.

Now I am 55 years old . I am doing business by renting a room in Srinagar bazaar at a distance of 500 meters from home and opening Salyani Madal Udyog. Up to 60,000 is earned monthly by selling new models and repairing old ones. Madal industry has now become a good means of livelihood for me and my family. I am easily supporting a family of eight with the money earned from this.

There is no land for farming, so all the food has to be bought . A family of eight spends 20 kilos of three grains of rice in a month. A bag of rice costs 2 thousand rupees . It takes 10 kilos of dal worth 2,000 in a month. Similarly, it takes three liters of oil worth 800. We eat 4,000 worth of vegetables. It takes two kilos of meat at a time. A kilo of beef is 400 rupees, 350 rupees of chicken and 350 rupees of pork. If you eat meat one day in a week, it costs 5 thousand more.

room rent should be paid two thousand . Even though I don't study, I am teaching my children in public school . Even if you can't buy books, you spend about 1,000 a month to buy materials such as paper, pen, dress, and shoes. 5,000 to buy new clothes and other goods. 20/22 thousand will be saved by cutting all the expenses in 60 thousand . I save some and since my brother also works together, he and I divide the amount equally.

Until a few years ago, if you had to work, you used to worry about whether you would get a daily job or not. I had to borrow money from the shop on days when I didn't get work. It was difficult to eat two meals with a full stomach . After adopting the ancestral profession according to the skill, now there is no need to depend on anyone . When I feel like eating something, I can buy it and wear new clothes if I feel like it. At home, if the family asked for money for expenses, the moneylender from the place of work would say Dimla. Not so now .

Madal was almost extinct in the past by modern Baja . When no one wanted to buy the model I made, I quit my job and gave more importance to labor. Lately, after the demand increased again, I converted it to professionalism . Now the madals that I have made are not only within the district but also outside. The price of 2,000 to 4,000 madal is now being sold daily by the industry. Now, even if you do not study or operate a Madal industry, you are able to get a job at home based on the skills you have learned.
