There was not much opportunity to read and write in the village. However, I was active in social service work from a young age. I learned to drive a taxi at the same time. It has been many years since I learned this job. I was not involved in business because I was more active in the social sector. I am buying and driving a taxi to make use of my skills of knowing that I will not have enough to eat by doing social services alone.
My house is in Pandavkhani of Galkot Municipality-10 of Baglung. The municipality is just to say . This village is very remote and difficult. Now I drive a taxi along the highways including Hatia and Harichour in Galkot Municipality. For the last 10 years I have been driving a taxi for a living . You have to do some work to support household expenses . That's why I chose this profession .
It is difficult to live by doing social service only. If there is no regular income, household expenses will not go on . So I decided to drive a taxi. It was difficult to save money when paying car installments . I paid the installment by driving a taxi . A family of 6 people including parents, wife and two children have to be supported by this profession .
For that, you have to earn 40,000 to 50,000 monthly. Otherwise there will not be enough to eat . I will save some money in the cooperative for future work . That savings is planned to cover the expenses needed for the future of the children. Even when a member of the family is sick, the same savings have helped.
Most of the village households have little income and expenses. Had he been in the city, he would not have been able to eat with that income. But after living in the village, even a small income seems good. If you can drive a taxi in the center of the city, you can earn a lot. But there is no service environment.
There are many neighbors in the village, so they don't charge high fees . If you have to go to Pokhara in a hurry, you will be charged a lot, otherwise, driving a taxi in Galkot area will only cost up to 500 rupees. Villagers who come to the municipality after work, those who are sick and go to the hospital are only my clients.
Many people see me as a taxi driver, but I don't like being a driver. Wanting to do some service as a driver as well, I used to drive a free taxi every Monday from Hatia market in Galkot to the city hospital for delivery, pregnant and disabled patients . The patient who takes my taxi on Monday does not have to pay .
I have done this work with the feeling that we should do social service as well as business. There are many people who come for pregnancy check-ups, those who have given birth for health check-ups, and for vaccination of children at the city hospital in Harichour. So I have set aside one day of the week to serve them. For this work I have also distributed my phone number to everyone . It is my hope that this work will help pregnant women and mothers who do not have the money to go to the hospital. I would like to serve with the money earned from
taxi . After carrying out a campaign to teach agricultural technology in Pandavkhani Mavi, I helped so that the children could study technical education in the village . It was thought that the children of local farmers could study technology in the village with my help. Needless to say, this opportunity has already arrived.
With the money I earned from driving a taxi, I have helped some in the campaign to teach agricultural technology . We could not read and write much, a technical school has been opened in the village . Now everyone studies here, young people become technicians and live in the village.
For 2 and a half years, I have had the opportunity to serve more than 5,000 patients during free service on Mondays . Coincidentally, Monday is also my birthday. I am doing this work after feeling that we should serve on this day. How many days can I serve - I plan to serve that many days .
Hatia market is on Madhyapahari Lokmarg and Harichour market is 5 km north from there . Galkot Nagar Hospital has provided pregnancy test and vaccination services on Monday. So many women come on that day. I came to this decision after seeing them stranded without getting a ride.
Head of Galkot Nagar Hospital Dr. Rajesh Paudel also gives thanks for free service to pregnant women, delivery women and small children from time to time. It also gives great encouragement . The municipality has honored me for this work. Galkot Municipality has been declared child-friendly and fully vaccinated.
Since the city has no internal resources, it has not been able to provide services for children to come to the hospital for treatment. But I want to do whatever I can. City chief Bharat Sharma Gayre has also supported my work . Seeing that I have served, my colleagues have also started to help if they see a patient who is in trouble.
